Sainsbury’s has revealed that it will be officially opening the doors of its new £40m superstore and petrol station at Lynn on Wednesday, at 9am.

More than 400 new full and part-time jobs for local people have been created through the arrival of the new 72,000 sq ft store off Scania Way, near the Hardwick roundabout.

Preliminary work on the 12-acre site began in February this year, after demolition of redundant refrigeration and office buildings formerly occupied by Pinguin-Lutosa.

The store is one of Sainsbury’s most energy efficient in the country, with a range of green technologies to help it consume less power and generate its own renewable energy.

With 1,000 solar panels on the roof generating electricity, the Lynn store has the largest multi-roof array in Europe.

New services available at the store include a mobile phone shop, nail bar, dentistry and holistic services – all of which are firsts for Sainsbury’s.

A variety of the chain’s food favourites, such as Basics, Taste the Difference and Be good to yourself, will be available and other features will include deli, meat, fish and bakery counters.

New store manager Chris Pardoe said: “The new store will provide a wide range of our popular Tu clothing and homeware, just in time for Christmas.”
