KING’S LYNN: Businesses focus on broadband and role of apprenticeships

The push to improve broadband in West Norfolk will be one of key areas addressed at a meeting in Lynn on Friday organised by the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce.

Local businesses will get together at the chamber’s West Norfolk Economic Business Breakfast held at Knights Hill Hotel, when leader of West Norfolk Council, Nick Daubney will give an economic update.

Improving broadband and the importance of apprenticeships are two issues upon which local business leaders will be invited to share their views.

Karen O’Kane, Better Broadband for Norfolk programme director, Norfolk County Council, will give an update on improving broadband in the area. Following the Say Yes campaign when individuals and businesses in Norfolk were asked to register their interest in receiving better broadband, she will update delegates on what will be happening in the area.

David Pomfret, principal and chief executive of the College of West Anglia, will discuss the importance of apprenticeships. Unlocking Potential in Norfolk’s young people is a key theme for the Norfolk Chamber this year and he will discuss how apprenticeships can help both young people and local businesses in West Norfolk.

Nick Daubney said: “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to speak to businesses at this Chamber breakfast meeting. Local businesses really are the backbone of our communities and we are fortunate to have so many businesses in this area that continue to perform well.

“As a local authority it is our duty to ensure we do everything we can to enable businesses to grow and thrive, and to do that we need to listen to the needs of business people. I’ll be talking about what the council and other local authorities are already doing to help support local businesses and how local businesses can engage with us to make future improvements.”

Heather Garrod, president, West Norfolk Chamber Council said: “It is really important to get local businesses together and update them on what is happening in the local economy. The chance for questions and feedback is invaluable to large and small businesses.”
