The secret was out as the founder of Britain’s most famous cake club came to a Lynn store yesterday to launch her new cookbook – a collection of recipes from home bakers across the UK.

Lynn Hill, founder of the Clandestine Cake Club (CCC), headed to Cook to Perfection, in Lynn’s High Street, to visit members of the club and sign copies of her new book.

She said: “Many of the CCC members wanted to help me celebrate the launch of the book and have arranged gatherings at bookstores in their areas. So when Melanie invited me to join her event, I jumped at the chance because I have never been to Lynn.

“The town has a well established club with around 21 registered members, who meet on a monthly basis at different venues.”

Melanie Done, owner of Cook to Perfection, said: “I didn’t expect Lynn to say yes when we invited her – I thought she’d already have plenty of events lined up, but we were really pleased she came along.

“Our bakers prepared Valentine’s Day-themed cakes to take along and we had lots of people asking us to hold copies of the book for them.”

The perfect location to launch her new book, Lynn had collected her favourite recipes from across the UK and beyond, where thousands of home bakers have been meeting in secret locations with one mission – to bake, eat and gossip about cake.

She said: “The inspiration for the cake recipes for the book came from the fact that we have such wonderful home bakers who wanted to share their creations with other bakers.

“Unfortunately there are no recipes from the Lynn area, but perhaps that can be rectified if there were to be a second book.

“At the start of collecting all the recipes for the book, CCC had a membership of 2,000. Now, with over 6,500 registered members, I’m sure there could be a whole series of baking books.”

From classic teatime treats and chocolatey indulgences to spectacular cake extravaganzas, you’ll find inspiring recipes including Scrumptious Sticky Toffee Cake, Smoked Chilli Chocolate Gateau, Blood Orange and Rosemary Syrup Cake and the unmissable Pink Champagne Cake with White Chocolate Ganache.

Lynn founded the CCC in 2010 after discussions on social media sites confirmed no-one else was doing anything like it.

She said: “I am passionate about bringing people together where baking is at the heart of this.

“Meeting in secret and clandestine locations adds mystique to the occasion and incorporating themes at events adds an element of adventure and experimentation when baking a cake.”
