KING’S LYNN: New owners at well-known London Road pub

Lynn’s London Porterhouse pub is in new hands having been bought by two businessmen determined to keep their “local” up and running.
And the takeover is also a “homecoming” for new landlady Karen Barr, who used to run the pub up until about five years ago.
David Nimmo, who runs a commercial building company in Lynn and Clive Faulkner, the owner of a Lynn bed-and-breakfast business, received the keys to the real ale pub on London Road last week.
A major refurbishment is already under way and it is expected the doors will swing open for business on either Friday or Saturday, March 15 or 16.
“in a climate where people are running away from running pubs, we are running into it,” said Karen, who previously ran the same pub for three years and who has also run pubs in Glasgow and Loch Lomond.
“Clive and David decided to put an offer in for the pub and to keep it as a local for the future. It will continue as a real ale pub and we are intending to have live music again which is always a big draw. There will be a regular music night on a Sunday,” said Karen.
She aims to create a warm and friendly atmosphere at the pub where everyone is welcome, including children and dogs.
“As well as creating a cosy atmosphere with a roaring fire, I want to work on the garden and create a colourful courtyard area, just as it was before when I was here then. We have already had good feedback about the takeover and we all can’t wait until we are open for business again.”
