Bob Booth’s latest book More Memories of Lynn has zoomed to the top of the best-sellers’ list at Waterstones bookshop in the town after selling 185 copies on Saturday alone.

The book of photographs of Lynn, taken between the end of World War II and the 1970s, has even left Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling’s latest release, The Casual Vacancy, trailing in its wake.

By yesterday lunchtime, Mr Booth’s book had clocked up 225 sales and established itself as his best first day seller to date.

Sam Marriott, lead bookseller at Waterstones in Norfolk Street, said: “It’s just phenomenal how well Bob’s books sell. Lynn people just love local books. We have had a lot of people coming in and buying two copies – one for themselves and one as a Christmas present.”

He said, by comparison, the new J.K. Rowling book sold 21 copies on day one and 61 in the first 10 days.

Following the centre pages spread on the book in Friday’s Lynn News, Mr Booth signed copies in Waterstones on Saturday – the publication’s release date – and was kept busy throughout the two-hour session.

A delighted Mr Booth said: “I’m now suffering from RSI, or whatever it’s called, but I can take that pain selling that many books!”

He said many people were buying the book after reading about it in the Lynn News and there were also lots of those who collect every book he brings out to see more photographs of the town in years gone past.

Mr Booth said: “There’s a lot of nostalgia when I’m signing, with people throwing in fresh knowledge and I pick up bits and pieces I never knew.

“There’s always plenty to learn about Lynn.”
