LATEST NEWS: First HMV redundancies – but not in stores

Administrator Deloitte this (Thursday) afternoon announced that 190 redundancies have been made across music and DVD chain HMV’s head office and distribution network.

However, it said there had been no redundancies across HMV’s 223 stores, including one in Lynn High Street now employing about 10 staff.

Following a review carried out by the administrator over the past fortnight, all the stores remain open and are continuing to trade,

Joint administrator Nick Edwards said: “We have been very pleased with the level of interest in the business as a going concern, whilst the response from customers has demonstrated the demand to see HMV remain on the high street.

“Equally, the support received from suppliers has been very positive and has enabled us to continue trading during the administration. As a result of all of these factors, I remain hopeful we will be able to secure a future for a restructured business.”
