LATEST NEWS: King’s Lynn tax office to close next year

Lynn’s tax office enquiry centre is among 281 across the UK planned for closure next year by HM Revenue and Customs.

The move puts at risk 1,300 jobs nationwide but the tax authority says it is aiming to deploy these staff elsewhere.

HMRC wants to replace the centres with a telephone service and home visits, saving it £13 million a year. People will also be able to go online to get their tax query answered.

The Lynn enquiry centre is based in County Court Road at Vancouver House, which recently celebrated its Diamond Jubilee, and the Lynn News understands the employees affected there were only told of the proposals yesterday (Thursday).

The Public and Commercial Services Union is urging people who would still value face-to-face help with their tax queries to contact their local MP to share their outrage at these proposals.

See Tuesday’s Lynn News for full report.
