McDonald’s to open its West Lynn outlet
McDonald’s will open its new drive-through restaurant at West Lynn on Wednesday, creating 76 new jobs for local people.
The restaurant, on the former Little Chef site at the service area off Clenchwarton Road, near the Pullover roundabout, will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, although the drive-through will close between midnight and 6am.
Local franchisee Martin Cuthbert said: “People can come along at any time of the day or night – they will get the same level of service at 3am as at 3pm. We simply aim to deliver great food and a great experience within a friendly environment.”
The new restaurant will have free Wi-Fi for customers, a 33-space car park and outside as well as indoor seating areas.
The full and part-time staff will have access to training and development programmes. They will also have the chance to gain nationally-recognised qualifications, ranging from adult certificates in maths and English to a foundation degree in managing business operations.
Josh Mansell, 21, from Lynn’s Fairstead estate, who will be working at the restaurant, said: “Having completed further education last year, I was looking for more than just a full-time job – I wanted a career with a company that could offer me real prospects.
“McDonald’s invests in its employees with various training programmes, so I knew it was the right choice for me. I’m really excited about starting my new career. Maybe one day I might even be running my own restaurant.”
Last month, Mr Cuthbert, managing director of Grantham-based CM Restaurants, took over the franchises of the McDonald’s restaurant in Lynn High Street and drive-through at Campbell’s Meadow, off Hardwick Road, in the town, employing a total of 135 staff.
He said: “I’m keen to ensure steady investment in the area and we’re pleased to be able to provide a significant number of new jobs.
“Investing in the development of our staff is also important. We want to ensure they have a good learning ladder of opportunities ahead of them to benefit their career but also because it will ultimately help us deliver consistently high levels of customer service.”
Mr Cuthbert also praised the Lynn Jobcentre for its help during recruitment. He said: “It was the best I have come across and it was good to work with them. We had a great response to our online recruitment and they were very supportive and helped us with interview rooms.”
