SWAFFHAM: Crowd-pulling evening market in town tonight

A big turnout is expected for Swaffham’s third evening market tonight following the success of the two held earlier this year.

More than 25 stalls will be on the central square in the Market Place, from 6pm until 9pm, where there will also be family-themed entertainment and live music.

The Christmas tree festival in nearby St Peter and St Paul Church will be staying open until 9pm to coincide with the market. This festival ends on Sunday, at 4pm, with the popular auction of the decorated trees.

This evening’s market will be selling a variety of items, including home-made foods and pies, bags, books, bric-a-brac, candles, Christmas decorations, flowers, jewellery and wooden crafts.

Unlike the previous two markets, there will be no road closure during this event. Free parking will be available at Theatre Street car park, which has 300-plus spaces.

Swaffham Town Mayor Terry Jennison said: “Like the previous two evening markets, it is hoped that this one will be just as successful for the visitors and also for the many traders who have booked to attend.

“It is hoped the shops and businesses in the town will also benefit from the increased footfall expected.”

Market committee chairman Sheila Lister said: “Our aim is to encourage passing motorists to stop off and get a flavour of what our lovely market town has to offer.

“This market will make the evening more attractive to passers by and will hopefully put Swaffham back on the map as the place to visit.”
