Swaffham: Tesco plans go on show at town hall
PLANS for the proposed new Tesco supermarket at Swaffham, including a computer-generated image of how it might look, have gone on display at the town hall.
After the interest shown in the store at its recent two-day exhibition in the George Hotel, developer Millngate has passed its display to Swaffham Town Council for public viewing during opening hours at the town hall.
An estimated 900 people called into the exhibition to meet with Millngate, Tesco and the project architect and highways engineer.
The developer hopes to build the new supermarket on the EcoTech Business Park, off Castle Acre Road, and offer about 150 new jobs.
Millngate managing director Tony Sweeney said: “We were pleased to meet so many people at our exhibition.
“We will now be carefully reviewing the comments and suggestions made before updating our proposals and submitting a planning application.”
A spokesman said feedback from the consultation carried out for the developer showed that most of the comments received were “extremely positive with around 70 per cent of respondents being in favour of the proposals”.
Millngate exchanged contracts to buy the site from Breckland Council last year, and will be submitting a joint planning application with Tesco for the supermarket.
