The opening of a new multi-million pound dessert factory on Friday confirmed that the Fakenham area is set to benefit as a total of 350 jobs are created.
This massive employment boost to the area comes as supermarket chain Sainsbury’s team up with the Hain Daniels food and drink manufacturing group in a new venture which will see the Holt Road factory producing chilled desserts.
Rob Burnett, chief executive of Hain Daniels Group, said: “It’s allowing us to invest more into the local community. The business we had here was much smaller – this is a completely new adventure.”
He added: “Once we’re up and running in about a year’s time, we expect to double turnover.
“We’ll be employing right the way through until March and will be taking on 350 employees – most of these will be by Christmas.
Production of the desserts will take place in an extension of the existing factory, but a pilot phase of the patisserie-style puddings went into production during the summer.
Mike Coupe, group commercial director at Sainsbury’s, said: “It’s very big news for us. We have made a significant commitment to Hain and will add to the many food manufacturers already in this area. We plan to put great quality products on our shelves.”
Mr Burnett added: “We’ve got a lot of new products that will be launched in the run-up to Christmas.”
The new desserts will include a Mango and Coconut Panna Cotta, and a Passion Fruit and Belgian Chocolate Torte.
