Hairdresser Derek Gilham is retiring after 37 years in Lynn and Tracey Eels is taking over his business, Scamps, on Tower Street.

It’s business as usual at Lynn’s Scamps Hair Company in Tower Street, but a change of ownership after well-known hairdresser Derek Gilham has decided to hang up his scissors.

Derek, who has worked in the town for 35 years, of which 17 were at a salon in Railway Road and Norfolk Street, has sold the business to hairdresser Tracey Eels, who took over last week.

“i sincerely thank all the many hundreds of loyal and supportive customers, some of whom have been with me from the beginning. I am very grateful for their continued custom and friendship, They are not just clients but genuine friends.”

One of the highlights of Derek’s 35-year career was winning the L’Oreal colour trophy presented to him in the Royal Albert Hall and the successful style was featured in the Guardian newspaper.

Another memorable moment was winning three brand new Audi A2 cars in 2003 each worth £14,000. The cars were top prize in a joint Wella and Audi national promotion. The cars went to the salon owner, stylist and customer.

Tracey said: “I am very excitied to be back in the industry and taking over a well-established business. Business will continue exactly the same as before with the addition of a nail bar and beauty salon in the new year. I am looking forward to welcoming customers old and new.”
