Organisers of the first farmers’ market held at Gayton’s Jubilee Hall were delighted with its success and have already taken bookings for future weekly events.

On Tuesday the hall was filled with stalls offering fruit and veg, meat, fish, Mediterranean and Indian food, specialist cakes and crafts.

Trustee for the hall Susan Fraser said: “The market stallholders were delighted with the Jubilee Hall as a venue due to its size and suitability, its friendly atmosphere and high-quality facilities.

“All those who had stalls will be coming back regularly. Those who came to browse and buy were from Gayton and neighbouring villages plus from further afield, such as holiday-makers.

“Visitors again commented on the friendly and relaxed atmosphere of the market and the locals will be spreading the word and will, we hope, prove to be long-term satisfied customers.”

The market takes place on Tuesday mornings from 9.30am and helps boost funds for the hall.
