A quirky four-poster bed made out of scaffold poles designed and manufactured by a Harpley family business has been named by television’s Kevin McCloud as a ‘Green Hero’.

Amanda Oldfield, co-founder of The Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Company, was awarded the accolade by Kevin at this year’s Grand Designs LIVE exhibition, which was held at London’s Excel Exhibition Centre.

Eleanor is an original design that has been ingeniously created from recycled scaffolding poles and components. It took centre stage, along with a small number of other eco-innovations within the exhibition’s dedicated Green Heroes showcase.

Harry Thompson, head of marketing at the company said: “We have returned from this year’s Grand Designs LIVE exhibition elated, as this is the second year running that one of our beds has been selected by Kevin McCloud to be one of the show’s ‘Green Heroes’. It’s a very prestigious, sought-after nomination.”
