A hotel on the Holkham Estate has temporarily closed its doors to customers ready for a major four-month refurbishment.
The Victoria Hotel, managed by Adnams brewery, closed last week and will re-open in May as The Victoria Inn.
The building is being transformed from a “boutique hotel to a modern inn” in a style chosen to reflect the surroundings of the Estate and national nature reserve.
Local builder George Hunt has been commissioned to carry out the work, with all ten bedrooms and bathrooms, as well as the bar and restaurant, being completely re-designed.
Adnams declined to reveal how much the refurbishment will cost, but David Horton-Fawkes, Estates director at Holkham, described it as a “major investment”.
He added: “The Victoria sits at the gateway to Estate and for many people it defines their perception of Holkham and the National Nature Reserve.
“The Victoria will change from a boutique hotel to a modern Estate inn, combining the best of the past and the present with boldness, style and simplicity.”
