The Norfolk Deli which was opened in Hunstanton in January by Mark and Rosie Kacary has been entered into an awards scheme which recognises excellence in independent speciality retailers.

The deli, in Greevegate, has been put forward for the Farm Shop and Deli Awards, which recognise the best standards in speciality retail, highest level of service, product knowledge, innovation and community involvement.

Now the deli is hoping that its customers will vote for it so that they are in with a chance of winning.

The panel of judges includes BBC Radio 2’s gastronome Nigel Barden.

Mr Kacary, managing director of The Norfolk Deli said: “We wanted to do something different by not following the trend of the Deli/Café establishment. We have always loved visiting delis on the continent which are crammed to the rafters with exquisite local produce.

“Our vision was to reproduce this in Norfolk and it appears that this is greatly appreciated not only by our customers but our suppliers as well.”

The Awards focus on retailers who sell regional fresh or farm produce or have a delicatessen counter offering items which fall into 13 different categories with the ultimate prize of winning Delicatessen of the Year.

Entrants will also have the opportunity to win as a East Anglia Champion. The regional winners will be put forward to win the overall title of Farm Shop and Deli Awards Retailer of the Year to be announced next year.

Mr and Mrs Kacary set up the deli because of their shared passion for quality food and wanted to focus on the best that Norfolk has to offer as well as the best products which are available.

Mr Kacary added: “We want to be seen as a mecca for Norfolk produce and those harder to find foods which are often used in recipes and, less often

stocked by supermarkets.”
