Lynn’s Smiles Better is breaking new ground by recording two “firsts” in its eight-year history.
The team at the Norfolk Street practice set up in 2006 by Kerry Osbourne Smith, has just been joined by its first male dentist, Dr Luke Smith.
The practice is also enjoying another “first” with trainee dental nurse Jo Manning becoming its first apprentice to work there while undergoing training.
Luke has been working within East Anglia on and off for the past ten years as well taking up teaching positions at Guys Hospital in London and James Cook University in Queensland Australia.
According to Luke the days of dentistry limiting itself to just teeth are long gone. He said: “Dentistry has changed immensely over the last few years and it often takes working and learning in other parts of the world to see this. There are certain aspects to medicine and dentistry that here in the UK we are light years behind compared to other countries like Australia and the USA, both of which I have spent time in.”
Jo, whose sister, Gabby Manning is practice receptionist and head of marketing, joined the practice in September and is doing a national diploma in dental nursing.
She said: “I am really enjoying learning a new career and cannot wait to know more. I look forward to one day becoming an experienced dental nurse. I couldn’t think of a better place to train, I have already learned so much and everyone at Smiles Better is so supportive and I am grateful for the opportunity I have been given.”
