King’s Lynn Volvo dealership Hylton Gott, based at Crimplesham, is celebrating the 40th anniversary of parts manager Paul Bidwell.
Paul, who lives in nearby Outwell, joined Hylton Gott as an apprentice in 1974 and has overseen huge advances in vehicle technology, site renovations and change of ownership during his time at the Downham Road dealership.
When his career began, Hylton Gott employed less than 15 staff, and since then numbers have doubled to 30.
During that time the dealership has had a new showroom built in 1980, a workshop revamp in 1985 followed by the construction of a bodyshop in 1996.
Paul has worked in the parts department throughout his employment, initially handwriting invoices and job cards, which is now all automated with a dealership management system which has streamlined the parts control process.
However his colleagues note that he still has the ability to retain part numbers in his head, despite there now being a lot more to remember due to the amount of electronic parts and software available on more recent models.
Paul said: “I’m delighted to reach such a significant milestone of my employment with Hylton Gott. My job has changed beyond recognition but I still retain the same passion that I did when I started here in 1974. It’s certainly a lot busier these days as when I started parts deliveries were few and far between, but now we receive three deliveries a day!”
Hylton Gott dealer principal Stephen Tilburn added: “Paul is a fantastic asset to this dealership and consistently delivers outstanding customer service. In the nicest possible way he’s part of the furniture here now and we’re very lucky to have him!”
