Today sees the launch of new swimming classes at Lynn’s St James pool especially for babies from as young as just a few weeks old.
Swimming lessons will be run by Kim Bennett, who holds classes across East Anglia for Water Babies, the world’s largest baby swim school. The classes are designed to make the most of babies’ natural affinity with water, teaching them confidence and safety, using specialist techniques that see many swimming short distances from as young as 30 months old.
With over 16 years’ experience in swimming instruction under her belt, Kim is one of Water Babies’ most experienced teachers. A mum of three Water Babies herself, she was the company’s first teacher when lessons started in 2002 and still plays a key role in the development of the company and tutors other Water Babies teachers nationally and co-writes the teaching course.
Kim has been running Water Babies across East Anglia since 2005 and now teaches more than 800 babies to swim each week.
“I fell in love with Water Babies when my husband, Mark, and I first took our son Frankie to classes from birth. As a parent, knowing that my child was safe in the water was really important,” said Kim. “The lessons were so fun and sociable but knowing that Frankie was learning vital life-saving skills at the same time made them invaluable.”
As well as teaching babies important water safety skills, the nature of the sessions provide a complete physical workout for parents and babies whilst being great for enhancing the whole bonding experience. Studies have shown that participating babies have improved sleeping and eating patterns and flourish with the extra attention.
Kim said: “Teaching babies and toddlers to swim is the best job in the world – each day is different and it’s amazing to see how quickly the babies and toddlers progress and become confident in the water.”
The Water Babies classes will be held at St James pool on Fridays every half hour from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. To find out more, visit www.waterbabies.co.uk or call 01603 263227.
