Encouraging craftspeople to get busy and helping them to sell their wares is the driving force behind Express Your Shelf shop which has opened in Lynn’s Tower Street.
It is managed by Laura Parsonage, who also runs a knitting and crocheting group from the shop on alternate Tuesdays.
“I offer shelf rental at £10 per week so that small home businesses have a retail outlet for their goods,” said Laura. “It works out at £1.42 per day for a space so can give someone a real opportunity to earn from their crafts.
“We have jewellery, cards, blankets, knitted toys, art, soaps, candles, craft supplies, plaques and also we have contacts for a variety of other services including dress making and cake making!
“There is lots of varied stock, which changes month to month, plus new stock coming in, including shabby chic furniture, nappy cakes and bath bombs!”
“I hope to be able to have a good crafting community running from here, where people can share ideas and learn from one another. I want children to learn how to do the crafts so that they have basic skills which they could one day earn a living from too.”
The knitting and crocheting group is free, and the next one is on June 10 and all ages and experience are welcome.
The shop is open 10am-4pm in the week and and 10am-5pm on Saturdays,
Its Facebook page is updated with events and new stock and a website is due to be up and running in the near future.
