Grimston once again has a butcher’s shop after one business closed earlier this year and a new venture was launched this week.
The Grimston Butcher and Deli opened for business on Monday morning and has been set up by Sandra Wood and her partner, Bob Bartleman, who currently run The Old Bell restaurant and bar, just 50 yards away from the shop.
“The village lost its butcher’s in January due to retirement and we decided to open up another business. The response from villagers has been very positive and they were looking forward to us opening,” said Sandra.
The new shop has created two new jobs, one for qualified butcher Paul Fenton and another for Rachel Howard, who is working in the deli. Both of them are villagers.
“We have had the premises completely re-fitted. We are selling fresh meats plus a range of things in the deli, from jams and pickles to pies and home-made calkes. We will also sell seasonal seafood and there is a small coffee shop area which is licenced.”
Just for the first month, the butcher’s will be open Monday to Saturday from 8.30pm to 5pm, but the longer term plan is to have it closed on Tuesdays, in addition to Sundays.
