Business has gone so well for a Downham shopkeeper that, in less than a year, he has needed to move to larger High Street premises.
Darryl Spain set up Outdoor Antics at 3 High Street selling all kinds of equipment for country pursuits and tomorrow he is due to invite customers into his new shop at numbers 10 and 12.
“One of my competitors stopped trading and also there is more demand for match fishing,” said Darryl, a keen angler himself, with a proud personal best catch of a 42lb 4oz carp.
“The shop has just gone from strength to strength and I needed more room for stock. It will mean more variety on offer and better presentation with new shelving.”
He will be stocking all kinds of tackle for coarse and match fishing and, with more room available, he is extending his range of products.
“It’s a popular area around here for fishing. I sell the Downham District Angling Association membership books. Anglers can fish at Wallington Hall, Clay Pit at Denver, Cuckoo Drain at Stow Bridge, Ten Mile Bank and the River Wissey.”
In addition to tackle he also stocks well-known brands of outdoor clothing, accessories for shooting and bushcraft items, such as compasses, cooking utensils and a small range of tents.
Darryl spent 20 years in the quarrying industry in Kent prior to moving to Norfolk 18 months ago, where he lives with his wife, Sharon.
