The concept designed by Sporle-based DJ Tim Daymond of using technology at events to unite friends and family around the world has won recognition in a national awards scheme.
Tim, who has more than 35 years experience in the music industry, designed the first Mobile Disco Network to offer multi-cam two-way broadcasting so that family and friends from all over the world can be united at events such as wedding receptions and parties.
Using the service families in different parts of the world can see, hear and interact with each other and help them feel as though they are taking part in the occasion.
The idea is that a client provides information about their family in up to three different countries and Tim works with them to ensure their computer systems are remotely configured for the live show. Using Wi-Fi enabled day and night CCTV cameras and 50-inch screens, families and friends can interact with those overseas.
Feedback on the idea from hotels and private function venues has been positive.
Tim was shortlisted and came within the top five in the country for both Innovation and Service categories in the 2014 Ixion Enterprise Awards, which were presented by Esther McVey, the Minister of State for Employment, at a ceremony held in Westminster Houses of Parliament central hall.
He said: “I am extremely excited and chuffed to bits to have won. I was very proud to have come in the top five in the UK and to attend the event at Westminster.”
Tim has signed up to the Government’s New Enterprise scheme run by Ixion, which gives support to people wishing to become self-employed.
Tim said: “The scheme offered mentoring and some financial support to help manage the business and for it to take hold and grow, it was just what I needed in the first few weeks.”
For most of 2013 Tim was recovering from hospital surgery and was relying on friends and family to help promote and get the business ready for launching. Two weeks before he was due to start, his car had problems and Ixion helped him to secure an NEA loan to replace it and literally get his business back on the road.
Tim is being placed for two more awards for 2015. For more information email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the website www.mobiledisconetwork.com
