The order books are filling up for a suit designer who staged a pop-up event in conjunction with a Lynn barber’s shop.

Elliot Suiter, from Watlington, who runs the online tailored men’s suits franchise InStitchu, offered gents the chance to be measured up for a new outfit while they were having haircuts and shaves at McKenzie’s, based in Broad Street.

The combination of services proved popular and positive for both businesses. “We have had up to 15 orders so far and there is a chance more will come in. A lot of people really liked the concept and it went much better than we had expected,” said Elliot.

The suit measuring service took place at McKenzie’s on Friday evening and all day Saturday and was the result of Elliot meeting barber shop proprietor, Cameron McKenzie earlier this year during a visit to the shop.

Since Elliot set up his franchise at the end of last year following on from meeting those who set up the business in Australia, it has gone from strength to strength with much of its success down to social media.

It was through this that he formed a contact with former English international rugby player Danny Cipriani, and measured him for a suit in London which was due to be delivered this week.

After the success at McKenzie’s, Elliot is considering organising a similar event in the future and is keen to develop local links. “It’s good to build close ties within the local community. Eventually I want to be able to offer guidance and advice to young entrepreneurs in the future, giving them ideas about how to go about successfully setting up start-up businesses.”

He is due to give a talk at his former university Northumbria in Newcastle, tonight, about entrepreneurship and share his own experiences.
