Two businesses are joining forces to sponsor an Easter Fun Day at Sandringham to raise funds for a charity which campaigns to stop the dog meat trade in Asia.
Karen Butler, who runs Tax Return Online Services Ltd, from her Roydon home, and Julie Nicholls, of Dogotel Kennels in Hillington, are staging the event on Sunday, April 5.
All funds raised will go to the Soi Dog Foundation, a charity set up to help all aspects of animal welfare and which is backed by celebrities such as Dame Judi Dench and Ricky Gervais.
Said Karen: “Dog meat has become very trendy in Asia with restaurants opening up just to eat dog. There are no welfare laws for dogs so they are kept in appalling conditions. Often the dogs used are stolen pets. Because of the lack of welfare laws, people are not doing anything illegal and so the police won’t get involved.
“The Soi Dog Foundation raises awareness of what is going on and is working towards rehoming some of the dogs which need to be relocated to a place where they can be looked after.”
Karen and Julie have planned a range of activities, including an Easter Bunny dash for dogs, an Easter egg hunt, and a photo booth where owners can have a picture taken of their pets.
There will be a children’s colouring competition, a competition to name the stuffed dog toy which will be given away as a prize, plus several other activities next to the Visitors’ Centre.
There will also be a tombola and Karen and Julie, who are both dog owners, would like to hear from anyone who can donate prizes. Karen can be contacted on 01485 601499.
The fun day kicks off at 10am. More details about the event can be seen on www.soidogkl.wix.com/easter and there is a Facebook page – search for Easter Fun Day.
