School leaver Matthew Houghton is keeping up a family tradition by joining Volvo dealership Hylton Gott, based in Crimplesham, where his grandfather, Patrick Houghton, is a long-standing partner.
Matthew joins as the dealership’s fourth technician apprentice from the manufacturer’s initiative, to be part of the six-strong service team.
Matthew is a former pupil of Downham Academy and enrolled as part of the apprentice programme on completion of his GCSEs.
Hylton Gott currently has four technicians in their workshop who have also been recruited as part of the Volvo Apprentice Programme – the first starting in 2003. Three of these technicians have gone on the achieve Level 4 master technician status - the highest level of Volvo expertise that can be achieved.
Recently, Hylton Gott celebrated another apprentice success after Jack Tilburn achieved a Certificate of Apprenticeship at Volvo’s graduation ceremony. Jack is now working towards his Level 3 development programme that tutors technicians in how to carry out in-depth diagnostics.
Matthew said: “My grandad has been in the motor trade for most of his life which encouraged me to join the team at Hylton Gott.
“I know I’ll have something to really be proud of by the end of my apprenticeship and I hope this is the start of a great career in the motor industry.”
