First-hand experience of the benefits of yoga after a road accident has inspired a former nurse to develop her own business.

After 16 years of working within the NHS mental health services in the Lynn area Toni Markham, of Gaywood, decided to leave her job in July so that she could expand her business, Here and Now Yoga.

She had set up the business in 2009 while studying with the British Wheel of Yoga. She said: “Yoga was suggested by a physiotherapist to help me strengthen and mobilise my spine and legs following a musculoskeletal trauma due to a road traffic accident. I attended weekly remedial classes and have continued to practice ever since. Yoga became a fundamental part of my recovery alongside cardiovascular and weight training.

“As my positive experiences grew, so too did my interest in the yogic practices. My teacher encouraged me to study the one year Foundation in Yoga course with the BWY, which became the prelude to the teacher training.”

After only being able to hold one regular class due to her working commitments she has now been able to increase her weekly sessions.

She offers pre-work classes on Thursdays, 7.30-8.30am and Fridays. 7-8am at Studio 19 in Bergen Way, North Lynn Industrial Estate. Another session is available on Fridays 9.15-10.15am at Tesco Community Room, Hardwick. Last week she began a new relaxation class from 6-7pm.

Toni plans more classes in future, including ones for children. She can be contacted on 01553 670532 or 07963031510 or visit hereandnowyoga.co.uk
