Two friends have turned an idea and their passion for VWs into reality by launching a specialist garage in Heacham.
Stefan Nicholls and Matt St Laurent have transformed an empty unit into a full blown workshop and body paint shop to accommodate their new business, Kustom Werk.
And to mark the official opening of their garage at Unit 2, Dairy Farm, School Road, they held a fundraising day this month in aid of Marie Curie cancer charity. This was supported by charity organisation Burtz Boyz, from Fakenham, and included demonstrations, competitions and a barbecue.
Stefan said: “I have been into VWs for years and at one point I had a VW garage. I knew Matt through VWs and we were saying how difficult it was to find someone who wants to work on VWs and do a proper job on them.”
They had a notion about importing a couple of VW vans to do up, and in July they found two in Uruguay, which they imported.
“They are very rare – there are only six in the world which are the original vans. We want to restore them but at the moment they are just shells and full of rust. It will probably take six months to a year to restore one of them. They are 53 years old.
“We specialise in air-cooled VW restoration and repairs but we don’t just work on VWs and welcome all makes and models of vehicles. We also work on bikes and scooters too.”
Among the services Kustom Werk offers are body work and spraying, services, brakes and welding. The business can be contacted on 01485 493068 or 07817878580.
