Caregivers who go the extra distance to help their clients are being recognised in a new awards scheme set up by employers Home Instead which operates across West Norfolk.

The Above and Beyond awards were created by Home Instead operations manager Tom McEwan and care manager Laura Atkinson. The winners are chosen based solely on client feedback. The office staff gather testimonials from clients to decide the shortlist of caregivers, then score each caregiver to determine the winner and runners up. The office has already nominated eight caregivers for the award, who continue to receive positive feedback from clients.

Margaret Perrot, who joined Home Instead in April, achieved the gold award, putting her in first place. Margaret’s client feedback demonstrated the fantastic support she provides to her clients and the company. In her short time working for Home Instead Margaret has already provided over 700 hours of care. Margaret was described in the testimonials as loving her job and always providing “extra effort”’ for her clients. Even on her days off, Margaret will pop into work to help her clients rather than let them struggle between visits.

Pauline Porter and Isabella Robinson were worthy runners up, claiming a bronze and silver award. The client feedback highlighted Pauline and Isabella’s willingness to go out of their way to accommodate client’s needs.

Tom McEwan explained, “We provide a minimum of one hour visits and our services are tailored to the individual needs of each client. This enables our caregivers to build a rapport with each client, developing in depth, bespoke care.

“We want to recognise our fantastic caregivers for all the hard work they do. Just from the eight caregivers nominated so far, we’ve heard heart-warming stories of kindness that show our caregivers going the extra mile for their clients. We look forward to making this an annual event for our caregivers.”
