The option of removing unwanted tattoos has become available in Lynn with the opening of a new business aptly named Tatty Bye.
It was set up by husband-and-wife team Mark and Clare Dicks at Unit 5 Austin Fields Industrial Estate two weeks ago.
Clare specialises in laser tattoo removal but also does hair reduction, stretch mark reduction and treatment for thread and spider veins.
Mark, an accountant who runs his own consultancy business, assists Clare with the running of the shop.
Said Clare: “We have had several people visit the shop in the first few days of opening having seen the signs outside. As we are the only business of this kind in Lynn we believe there is good potential here.”
Said Mark: “Tattoos are a very personal thing but there are some cases where people regret having them done and would like them removed, for example if they have a tattoo with the name of an ex-partner or they had one done when they were young and didn’t like it as they got older.”
The tattoo is removed by using laser light treatment to shatter the ink into minute particles which the body is able to remove. Because the laser energy is selectively absorbed by the tattoo ink, the surrounding skin doesn’t overheat and there is no lasting damage.
The results are not instantaneous and the tattoo cannot be dispersed in one session. There is usually a four to six week interval between sessions so the skin can heal. Most professional tattoos need eight to 12 treatments at monthly intervals. A free consultation is offered first.
And it does hurt a bit. Said Mark: “It’s a bit like being snapped with a rubber band.”
