Toddlers and pre-schoolers have the chance to learn French and Spanish at classes due to start in Hunstanton on Friday.
The sessions, which take place at the Oasis Centre, are run by local secondary school teacher, Kate Norman, who operates a Lingotot franchise in West Norfolk and Fenland.
Lingotot, which was founded in 2006, offers specialist language tuition to nurseries, schools and the community.
Kate, who is special needs coordinator at the Alderman Peel School in Wells, employs a team of experienced French and Spanish tutors and linguists who teach young children and families language skills.
Having taught French and Spanish for ten years in secondary schools, she decided after the birth of her daughter to try something a little more family friendly while still using the languages she loved. She bought the Lingotot franchise just under two years ago and has already established activities in Lynn and Wisbech areas.
She said: “The children love it, and the adults get stuck in too. We work in schools, nurseries and community settings across Fenland and West Norfolk delivering French and Spanish at Key Stages 1 and 2, as an enrichment or after school activity, and in the community.
“Cognitively children who can speak two languages do better socially and it’s good for their literacy and their attention span. It’s also lots of fun with singing, games, storytelling and music and movement.
“Studies show that the earlier a child learns a language the more quickly they pick it up and more likely they are to become fluent.”
French and Spanish classes for babies, toddlers and parents take place every Friday morning at the Oasis Centre at 10.45am and 11.15am. There is free soft play for little ones and cup of tea and chat at the end of the session.
