hAs miles were notched up through pedal power at Lynn’s Marshall Toyota last week, so the money added up for Comic Relief.
Staff at the dealership in Scania Way took turns to ride two bikes set up in the showroom over a 12-hour period and managed to clock up an impressive 433 miles.
Around 25 riders took part in the event, each averaging about half an hour on the bikes, which were donated for the event by Lynn’s Heros Gym.
Simon Oakley, general manager of the Marshall Ford Toyota, said that the bike riding created a real buzz at the dealership.
“People were queuing up to get on the bikes, even towards the end,.
“We had lots of support from our customers, who were encouraging the riders. There was a real feel-good factor throughout the day.”
Fitness instructor Kevin Cross, from Watlington, who is customer of the dealership, gave up his time to attend the bike ride and also helped staff prepare with a warm-up.
This year Toyota is one of the major sponsors of Comic Relief, and the Lynn dealership has set itself a target to raise £2,800.
Several more events planned include representatives from the dealership visiting Lynn’s Vancouver Centre on Thursday and Friday, March 5 and 6, to sell Comic Relief car noses at £5 each.
And between Thursday, March 12 to Sunday, March 15, it is staging a Great British Bake Off event.
Said Simon: “our staff have volunteered to make cakes and bring them into the dealership so that we can sell to raise more money.
“We are also going to be making a donation to Comic Relief from the sales of new vehicles between March 12 and 15.”
