A restaurant business which started in Middleton four years ago is continuing to expand and is about to open its third outlet in Milton Keynes.
Middletons Steakhouse and Grill, a business set up by Steve and Tracy Hutton when they re-opened the former Crown Inn, has already seen expansion into Norwich in December 2012, when a 160-cover restaurant was opened in the city centre.
Now the Milton Keynes 160-cover restaurant is set to open its doors to the public tomorrow.
Operations manager for the business, Rob Spillings, said a “significant six-figure sum” had been invested in this latest development. The site had been chosen for demographic and geographical reasons, he said.
“Milton Keynes has diverse economic roots, a huge catchment area and a large educational establishment, similar to Norwich. We wanted to test ourselves in the wider environment. It’s another step up for our business.”
The opening of the latest restaurant means that there are now over 100 people on the payroll of Middletons. About 20 of these are full and part-time positions at the Middleton restaurant, which seats nearly 70.
“Steve and I have spent a lot of time planning how to move the business forward. We wanted to make sure that we are building on solid foundations. We opened in Norwich only when we were sure that we had a winning formula and the right model of how we wanted our business to run.
“In the future, any restaurant that we open, we want to ensure that it gives exceptional service and that we have the right people maintaining the product in our business.
“We are ambitious, but we don’t want to put pressure on ourselves and will make sure that we are in a strong position when we grow.”
He said there are no plans for further restaurants in Norfolk, but that the business was “very proud of its roots.”
