A by-election has been scheduled to take place next month following the death of former West Norfolk Council leader and borough mayor Mike Tilbury.
Mr Tilbury, who represented the Valley Hill ward, died last month, aged 80.
Now, the authority has announced that a by-election will take place, if required, on Thursday, June 16.
A formal notice of election will be issued tomorrow and nominations will close next Thursday, May 19.
Mr Tilbury’s funeral is also scheduled to take place that day, at 1pm, at St Mary’s Church, Great Massingham.
The poll is scheduled to take place a week before the EU referendum on June 23.
However, the council says it does not believe the election could have been held to coincide with the referendum, as there is no legal mechanism for another poll to take place on that date.
The legislation allowing for the referendum was also amended to ensure that it did not coincide with other scheduled elections.
