Calls for Stoke Ferry action after crash

A STOKE Ferry parish councillor has renewed his call for further safety measures in the village's Bridge Road after an accident last Thursday afternoon.

A blue Vauxhall Astra collided with the side of a Vauxhall Zafira, then left the road at the bend near the corner shop, hitting a telegraph pole and leaving it at a precarious angle.

Councillor Mr Debroy Summers, of Bridge Road, said: "I have been campaigning for months to get speed humps or other safety measures put along this stretch of road because there are lots of children living in this part of Stoke Ferry.

"I keep saying that if something is not done, sooner or later someone is going to get killed or badly injured here."

A neighbour, Mr Roger Robinson, said the side of his Zafira had gouges and scrapes where the Astra swiped it before leaving the road.

A Norfolk police spokesman said the Astra driver, a 53-year-old man, had been arrested and subsequently charged for driving with excess alcohol, before being released on bail.
