Charged for free Lynn bus journey
SOME pensioners boarding a 505 bus to Lynn on the first morning of the new "free" national bus pass scheme found themselves being charged for a journey which had cost nothing the previous day.
They included 62-year-old Irene Waddilove, of South Lynn. She was angry and surprised to be charged 90p for her 9.10am journey to town on Tuesday on a bus operated by Long Sutton-based Cavalier Travel.
Mrs Waddilove was even more annoyed when she checked her printed timetable. It stated that Norfolk passengers could travel free on the route from 8.30am although Lincolnshire passengers would have to wait until 9.30am.
She said other old folk from South Lynn were also charged and the same problem arose on Wednesday morning.
She hit out: "It's a matter of principle more than the money involved. It doesn't seem right."
Cavalier Travel's commercial director, Mr Philip Norwell, said: "We have picked up that a mistake has been made and taken steps to put that right. We apologise to the lady concerned and anyone else affected.
"There are a lot of changes going on at the moment and there was a little bit of miscommunication."
