Fakenham - We'll fight tooth and nail

Fakenham has been rocked by the news that it will be served by just one post office following this week's bombshell announcement.

Customers wanting to use vital post office services will now have to rely on the branch in Martins the Newsagent, on Miller's Walk, after the Wells Road office was included among those which will close.

Brett Corder, owner of the Budgens Local store, where the post office is based, spent Tuesday morning breaking the news to staff and has now launched a campaign to save a vital community service.

He told the Lynn News: "We have already written to the Post Office and we are going to fight this tooth and nail. We have started a petition and we hope to get our MPs behind us.

"We are very disappointed and believe it will be a great loss to the community in this part of Fakenham.

"The Post Office is obviously doing this for a reason, but I believe they have not looked at how it will affect the community."

Mr Corder's wife Maria, who runs the business with her husband, had submitted an application to become post mistress at the office but the process was put on hold at the latter stages of her interview.

She said the store offers crucial facilities to elderly people who find it difficult to visit the main post office in the town centre.

It is also popular with the wider community due to the parking spaces available at the front of the store.
