Gaywood student runner prepares for marathon

A UNIVERSITY student is preparing herself for the 26-mile challenge of the London Marathon to help raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Emily Barker (20), who is studying geography and sociology at Hull University, will be running the route in memory of Mary Black, a 22-year-old from Gaywood who died from the condition last year.

Emily, of Gaywood, a former pupil at Springwood High School, has been combining her training with her university studies for what will be her first marathon on Sunday, April 13.

She said: "I have done quite a few charity runs in the past but this is something I have always wanted to do.

"I am now in training while studying for my degree. It has been challenging, especially coming home for Christmas and having to give up alcohol, which for a student is difficult."

Emily has set herself a fundraising target of 2,000. Anyone interested in supporting her should visit www.justgiving.com/emilybarker
