Give West Lynn better status
WEST Lynn is stepping up its bid for recognition. The community on the "other" side of the River Great Ouse has published its list of main concerns, claiming neglect in a number of key areas.
West Lynn does not have a parish council, being represented on West Norfolk Council by elected members from South Lynn.
So the West Lynn Forum, acting as an unofficial parish council, has called for action on 19 main points.
Forum members are concerned about:
Playing field provision;
Absence of a community centre;
Inadequate bus service;
All pubs sold for housing;
Church community run from Clenchwarton;
Need for a modern school;
The cross-river ferry being unsuitable for disabled and infirm people;
Lack of traffic controls;
No 20mph speed limits, unlike Clenchwarton, Terrington St Clement, South Lynn, West Winch and others;
No repeater 30mph signs after a tiny one at the entrance to the village;
No flashing warnings, unlike Clenchwarton, Gayton, Middleton and others;
No speed humps, unlike Clenchwarton, South Lynn, Gaywood;
No road chicanes, unlike Fakenham and others;
No control at very tight and dangerous bends;
A single school sign obliterated by shrubbery;
An unsigned, uncontrolled and unofficial school car park on the Del Monte site;
Minimum police control over speeding;
Damage to property in narrow village streets from HGVs;
Impact on all village facilities from closure of Del Monte.
The forum's acting chairman, Mr George King, said: "We're over there and forgotten; now we want the borough council to remedy the long-term neglect in West Lynn."
The forum meets in the church hall and the next meeting is on Monday, April 7, when Mr Stuart Ashworth, head of planning at the borough council, has been invited to attend to answer questions about the neglect of West Lynn. All West Lynn residents are invited to attend.
