Grow the trees, Southery
MORE trees are being planted in Southery on Sunday as part of "greening" of the village.
A group of enthusiasts are planting 14 sapling oak trees on farmer Bill Legge’s field, at the end of Lynn Road in the village, at 2pm.
The group was started by local resident Mrs Sue Jennings who came up with the idea of setting a row of native trees after moving to Southery from Bury St Edmunds.
Mrs Jennings has a particular interest in trees as, together with her husband, Dave, she used to grow tea trees in Australia.
“Trees and spades will be provided so come along and bring children to encourage them to plant a tree,” said Mrs Jennings, adding trees had been donated, including some by tree surgeon Richard Wilson.
The project had also won West Norfolk Council support. After planting, refreshments will be served in Ferry Bank Methodist church.
