Homes plan on show at Swaffham

PLANS for a new private retirement development in Swaffham will be unveiled at a public exhibition in the town hall on Tuesday.

Developer McCarthy and Stone hopes to build 20 one-bedroom and six two-bedroom apartments, tailored to older people's needs, on adjoining sites at 108 London Street and 110 Brandon Road, near London Street Post Office.

Visitors to the exhibition, which runs from 4pm to 7.30pm, will have the opportunity to ask questions about the proposed scheme, which would be accessed off Mill Lane and involve demolition of two bungalows.

The two-storey development would have a 24-hour personal emergency service, a house manager, a central lounge for social events and a guest suite where visiting friends and family can stay overnight.

Andrew Oliver, McCarthy and Stone's regional managing director, said: "We are always keen to ensure the local community has an opportunity to view our proposals and comment on them before the submission of a planning application."

Mr Oliver said the Swaffham site was an excellent location because it was close to public transport routes and shops and services. McCarthy and Stone provides around two-thirds of Britain's private retirement properties and has won design awards.
