Hunny's Christmas switch-on

THE festive period in Hunstanton started in spectacular style on Sunday as the town's new-look Christmas lights were officially switched-on by pantomime dame David Romelle.

The larger-than-life star was joined by fellow cast members from this year’s Princess Theatre production of Sleeping Beauty as shoppers flocked to the town for some early Christmas cheer.

Father Christmas made a special appearance at his grotto in the Princess Theatre and Hunstanton Mayor Richard Bird was on hand to greet people and enjoy the festive fun.

Visitors were also treated to a selection of festive music from Hunstanton Concert Band while Lynn Mini Owners’ Club members paraded through the town delivering sweets to youngsters.

Mrs Dawn Davies, secretary of Hunstanton United Businesses (HUB), the organisers of the event, said: “It was very busy and there was a lovely atmosphere in the town.

“The shops were all decorated and there was a really buoyant mood.”

The lights were purchased through an investment of around 70,000 from West Norfolk Council in new energy-efficient decorations for both Lynn and Hunstanton.

HUB would like to thank West Norfolk Council, the Princess Theatre, Sainsbury’s, Woolworths, Lynn Mini Owners’ Club, KLFM and Cllr Bird for supporting the event.
