Ladies step up to the oche for John

GENEROUS darts players have been stepping up to the oche in a 24-hour throwing marathon to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Players from the Workers B team, based at the Workers' Club in Lynn's Church Street, took part in the challenge in memory of head barman John Gallagher, who died from cancer last year, and raised 1,000 for the charity.

Mrs Mo Tyler (69), of Fairstead, who organised the event, said: "I used to work behind the bar with him and we shared the same birthday. The club held a quiz to raise some money and I suggested to the girls that we should do this in his memory.

"It was very enjoyable and I would just like to say thank you to everyone who supported us."

Mrs Tyler was joined by fellow players Tracey Miller, Andrea Miller, Tracey Walker, Shelly Pearmen and Dawn Beckwith in the challenge.
