Last orders at grave of Fairstead pub

RESIDENTS of Lynn's Fairstead estate have the chance to dance on the grave of a former eye-sore today (2) when a family fun day is held at the site of the old pub.

The burned-out shell of the pub was finally demolished last month after residents said they wanted to see it razed to the ground.

The building was bought by the Improving Neighbourhoods Board and the future of the site will be decided when a number of options have been looked at.

Celebrations for the end of the pub have been organised by the neighbourhood group and member Walter Glynn said residents wanted to celebrate the end of an era "and the reputation that went with it."

Neighbourhood manager Vicky Etheridge said: "We will be talking to people about Plantation Wood and the Rookery, asking what they would like to see happen there."

The event runs from 11am to 3pm today (Sunday) and includes balloon races, a Gladiator-style rubber ring fighting, a barbecue, car boot sale and special celebration cake.
