Mayor's visit goes on record
WEST Norfolk Mayor David Johnson visited Lynn's Highgate Community Centre last Monday to deliver a Christmas message for blind and partially-sighted people.
The Mayor was being recorded for Vision Link, a tape bringing articles, including some from the Lynn News, to local people, and also those who have moved away.
In his message, the Mayor highlighted major events so far during his mayoral year, including a parade and march past in Lynn of airmen from RAF Marham, reflecting that those involved had seen action and would be seeing more action in Afghanistan.
He had been welcomed to the recording session by Michael Forster, chairman of the Lynn Talking Newspaper Association which organises Vision Link.
The Mayor thanked members of the team and all of the association’s personnel for their voluntary work.
Among those the Mayor met during his visit was the team’s youngest helper, Matthew Fysh (16), who was a winner in the Lynn News-backed Super Kid 2007 awards.
Matthew, from North Lynn, has given around eight years’ support to Vision Link, from unpacking tapes to making address cards.
He was a winner in the achievement at home, at school, for an organisation or charity category.
