More help on hand to guide stroke victims

NURSING staff and members of the Friends of the Stroke Unit at Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital have compiled an information pack to help stroke patients and their families.

The pack, which was launched last Thursday, will be given to patients and families on arrival at hospital.

It contains useful information and advice together with contact details for outside organisations and companies that specialise in helping stroke victims.

Nursing and medical staff led by stroke specialist Sister Ann Lankester worked closely with the Friends, who financed the project.

Chairman of the Friends, Paul Brandon, said they were hoping to produce about 500 packs a year, which is around the number of patients who go through the stroke unit.

“We hope it will be helpful, not just to the patients, but to relatives and friends who visit them and who care for them on discharge from hospital,” he said.

Former West Norfolk borough mayor, Mr Brandon, chose the stroke unit as one his charities for fundraising during his year of office in 2004 and 2005.
