Mum horrified over son's "sex bracelet"

A MOTHER is "appalled" after her 11-year-old son came home from Hunstanton's Smithdon High School wearing controversial "sex" bracelets.

The thin plastic bracelets, marketed under a sexually-suggestive slang name, have become increasingly popular with teenagers across the UK.

Each colour encourages a sexual act, from kissing and exhibitionism to intercourse.

When a band is snapped the wearer has to offer the physical act which corresponds to the colour of the bracelet to the person who snapped it.

A spokesman from Smithdon High School said: "It is being dealt with within the school and any parents who are concerned can call into the school."

Park High School in Gaywood has outlawed the bands adding: "We do discourage them if they have got them on as it is not part of the uniform policy."

The parent, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: "Some children think they are just a friendship band and obviously other parents have not heard about these."

Seasons of Lynn, on Broad Street, has been selling the bands for about three weeks, at just 1, saying there was a demand for them. There is no age limit on who can buy them.

But the furious mum said: "It is disgusting that these are aimed at children under 16."

Natalie Mills, manager of Seasons of Lynn, said: "At the end of the day they are fashion bracelets. They are just the latest craze. In another few weeks it will be something else."

The manufacturers' website offered an explanation of what each band means, but the link to that part of their site was not working yesterday. However, band wearers' comment on the site were sexually explicit.

Mr Peter Hopkins, headteacher of Lynn's Springwood High School, said: "No-one has reported anything like this to the school but they are obviously totally inappropriate. If they do arrive here we will take appropriate action.."
