New name for Denver Garage homes will be...

NAMES proposed by a developer for new homes at Denver will not do, councillors decided.

They are to object and suggest that the four detached and four semi-detached dwellings at what is currently Denver Garage, 1 Sluice Road, should be called Regent Close.

With regret, the chairman accepted the resignation of John Redcar. A vote of thanks was given to Cllr Redcar for his many years of hard work on behalf of the parish council and the residents of Denver.

Sue Willis was given a vote of thanks and was presented with a bouquet as a token of the council's appreciation for her excellent services as clerk. The new clerk is Shan Tedder.

The Countryside Access Warden advised that a new Perspex front is required for the Fens Access noticeboard. It was agreed to obtain a quotation for a new noticeboard of sufficient size to incorporate the Fens Access details. Mr Willis to provide a quotation.

A meeting was held with the Common Leate to discuss various issues relating to the pond and common land at Sluice Road. Help has been offered to carry out the following remedial works; clear pond, remove willow scrub, and cut back willows. Permission to place waste from the pond on to Common land is to be sought from the Common Leate.

The wild flower area has been flailed and tidied.

It was reported that approximately two tonnes of clay needs to be sourced to make the pond off Downham Road watertight.

Copies of the Environment Agency newsletter were circulated, outlining remedial works to take place at Denver Sluice. The chairman attended a meeting with the Environment Agency and advised the council that he is satisfied with the works.

A meeting of southern area road safety committee was held in November, which Mr Rose attended and raised parish council concerns as follows: Lack of police presence in the village, and agricultural vehicles speeding through the village. The speed awareness message (SAM) initiative was also discussed. The clerk was requested to write to the NFU and advise the police community support officer team on the speeding vehicle issue.

Mr P. Duffield has been accepted to serve as a representative on Stoke Ferry Internal Drainage Board.

Christopher Fraser MP offered an invitation to arrange a tour of Westminster for the parish council and guests.

The council was advised that the public liability insurance has been paid by the Reading Room holding committee. The committee agreed to pass its file to Mr Mackinder who will advise thecommittee on who to contact to progress their issue.
