Summer festival will lift Rudhams' spirits
ORGANISERS of a summer festival in the Rudhams hope it will promote community spirit and provide an antidote to the recession.
The event is taking place on Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12, and a varied programme designed to appeal to young and old is being drawn up.
The long list of events and activities includes a traditional fete, bell-ringing, ceilidh dance and hogroast, local arts and crafts exhibition, history display, dog show, mini-Olympics, horticultural show, classic car display, Gurkha stand, charity stalls, inter-village cricket match and tennis and rounders tournaments.
The events will take place at various locations in East and West Rudham and visitors will be encouraged to walk to each venue by following a scarecrow trail.
Main organiser Ginny Gibson (52), said: “I was born and raised in the Rudhams and years ago we used to have events which were enjoyed by the community.
“As a child and teenager I remember all the community getting together.
“For the Queen’s Jubilee we had four days of celebrations and everyone said how wonderful it was and how many memories it brought back.”
