When a cuppa really is a lifesaver

REFRESHING cuppas served at Weightwatchers' meetings at Gaywood have raised enough money to buy new equipment for Lynn's cycling paramedics.

The four-strong team of medics who make up Lynn’s cycle response unit plan to spend the 300 on a miniature pulse oximeter.

“It is specialist equipment which measures oxygen levels and gives a pulse reading and in this case it is so small it fits into the palm of a hand,” explained paramedic Carl Smith who is on duty in the town centre four days a week.

He added that they deal with an average of five calls a day when on duty and their average response time is two to three minutes.

The money was raised at Weightwatchers’ group meetings at Reffley Community Hall on Thursday evenings. The cheque was presented by Tereza McCrea, who is a Weightwatchers’ leader and runs a number of meetings in the area. She paid special tribute to Margaret Collier and Dot Hall who organise and served the refreshments each time. “It is really thanks to them that we have raised this money,” she said.
